Welcome to Nursery / Reception

School starts at 8.50am and ends at 3:00pm.

Breakfast club: Available from 8.00am (the doors close at 8.10am) and after school club is available for children who wish to attend. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you would like more information.

Fruit/Drink: Please ensure that your child brings a healthy snack of fruit or vegetables daily. Children are also encouraged to bring their own labelled water bottle to school. Children have access to water whenever they want.

Dinner: Dinner can be ordered and paid for using the Parent Pay app. If you need any more information, please ask and we will get you all the relevant details.

P.E: Early Years will have PE on a Monday; your child will need to wear a t-shirt and shorts / joggers and suitable footwear. P.E lessons will take place outside so please ensure that your child has suitable clothing.

On a Thursday morning: we will be visiting the Nature Den to conduct our learning outside. Please ensure your child is dressed warmly with suitable clothing for wet weather (just in case!). They will also need a pair of wellies to change into.

Reading: Your child will be coming home with sounds or their own Oxford Owl log in details to access their reading books online. Please read with your child at home as this helps to consolidate any reading we do in school. Please record any reading in their J2E files.

Letters: As a school, we will be sending letters and information home via SCHOOP. If you have not already downloaded SCHOOP please Google play or apple app store. The school code is: 7749.

Twitter: Early Years will be using a class Twitter account to share information. Please follow us: @OnnenORS

As part of the Foundation Phase Curriculum children are encouraged to be independent learners and they are encouraged to try as many activities as possible. We apologise in advance if your child comes home ‘messy’, this will be because they have been actively involved in their learning. Some activities may take place outside so please ensure that your child has appropriate clothes.

This term we will be learning about…

Counting – up to 10/20,matching numbers to the numeral, putting objects into sets

Cornerstones

winkle, twinkle, little star. Why are there stars in the sky at night?

Does everyone go to bed at the same time? It’s time to find out more about night time

This term, we’ll be entering the celestial world. We’ll listen carefully to a presentation about the patterns of the stars, and ask questions about the universe.

Snuggling up with comfy cushions and blankets, we’ll listen to bedtime stories and nursery rhymes. Zzz…

Wide awake once more, we’ll learn about people and services that work at night, the Hubble Telescope and nocturnal animals.

We’ll also find out more about how good bedtime routines can have a positive impact on our health, and take part in a series of bedtime challenges. Ready, steady, brush your teeth!

In our mathematics lessons, we’ll play with the shape and size of star patterns, and create moons of different sizes out of sparkly play dough.

Getting creative, we’ll make constellations out of battery-operated tea lights, and star mobiles out of silver sequins and glittery pompoms. At the end of the project, we’ll share and reflect on what we have learnt, and we’ll use our knowledge and creativity to write a bedtime story to take home to read.

We’ll also hold a lullaby sing-along for new babies and their parents
